OUR MISSION

That’s Their Dream was created to provide a space to learn financial literacy to work towards financial independence to help close the wealth gap. This is accomplished by providing programs, events, and resources to make dreams come true.

How That's Their Dream come about?

For many individuals, 2020 was a year unalike any other. It was a year of self-reflection. Sydney chose to dig deeper and search for her true purpose. She knew there was something that she can contribute to the community, and that was to provide the proper tools for financial education. In the month of June 2020, That’s Their Dream was born. The name came about in a conversation about systemic oppression, and how there are many laws in place that set people of color back. The problem is the BIPOC community doesn't have the resources to learn financial literacy and she wanted to change that.

The Story of the Founder

That’s Their Dream was started by a woman named Sydney Otundo, a Minnesota native, with a Kenyan background. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics.

Her purpose is to change the narrative for the BIPOC community by providing the proper tools for financial education.

Sydney owes a lot to her mother for pushing and motivating her to be active in school, and outside of school. Her mom taught her leadership skills and financial independence. The most critical thing she taught me is how to manage money. Once she began becoming more independent, Sydney took it upon herself to seek education about financial literacy by reading books, listening to podcasts, talking with other adults, having open conversations about finance, and attending events to learn more from others. She began applying the skills learned and started to see her money grow at a young age. Now, she’s on a journey of financial independence.
